The camping area can be reached by private boat or sea kayak, typically departing from either Mourilyan Harbour or Kurrimine Beach. Several commercial operators also offer access to the Barnard Islands for those without their own watercraft. Be sure to check with tourism information links for options and schedules. There are two camping sites available, though they are separate and not numbered. A maximum of 12 campers are allowed on the island at any given time, ensuring a peaceful and uncrowded experience. The campsite surface consists of sand, so campers should plan accordingly when setting up their tents. Open fires are not allowed at Stephens Island Camping Area. Campers are required to use fuel stoves for cooking and heating. The use of generators is prohibited to maintain a peaceful and environmentally friendly atmosphere. Recommended items to bring include a tarpaulin for shelter, drinking water, rubbish bags for responsible waste disposal, a fuel stove for cooking, a comprehensive first-aid kit, insect repellent, and sun protection equipment Mobile phone coverage is not available on Stephens Island, so be prepared for limited or no connectivity during your stay.
