Things to know
Accessible by high clearance 4WD vehicles, ensuring an adventurous journey for campers. Waddy Point Top Camping Area is situated on the north-east coast of K'gari, approximately 100km north of the Hook Point barge landing area and 5km north of Tukkee Wurroo (Indian Head). 25 groups permitted for tent camping in large open areas. 6 camper trailer sites available, suitable for off-road camper trailers or walk-in campers. Large group site catering to schools and organized groups of 20 to 40 people. Grass and sand surface, providing a natural camping experience. Amenities include water taps (treat water before drinking), flushing toilets, coin-operated hot showers, picnic tables, communal fire rings, and washing-up facilities. Rubbish bins available at the QPWS waste transfer station in Orchid Beach township. Open fires allowed in designated QPWS provided fire rings (refer to the map), with restrictions during fire bans. Generators not permitted to maintain the peaceful ambiance of the campsite. Campers are encouraged to bring essential items, including first-aid kits, prescription medicines, fuel or gas stoves, water containers, rubbish bags, insect repellent, and sand pegs. Limited mobile phone coverage nearest pay phone available at the Orchid Beach store.
