Brown Creek Camping Area
The Brown Creek camping area in Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park offers a remote and scenic camping experience with access to waterways and natural beauty. Brown Creek camping area is located at the junction of Brown Creek and the Bizant River, in the northern part of Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park (CYPAL). It is approximately 340km north-west of Cairns and 140km west of Cooktown on the southern Cape York Peninsula.

Things to know
ou can reach Brown Creek camping area with a 4WD vehicle. The road may become impassable after rain, so it's important to drive with care and consider minimal impact driving practices. Visitors are required to book a camping permit before visiting Brown Creek camping area. You can book online, at an over-the-counter booking office, or by phone. Camping areas north of the Lakefield ranger base are closed from December 1st to June 30th. one numbered site—maximum four cars and trailers (12 people). Camping options include tent camping, camper trailer camping, and tent camping beside your car. Campfires are allowed, but conditions apply, so be sure to check for any fire bans. Generators are allowed, but they must be operated at less than 65dB(A) between 8.00am and 7.00pm. Mobile phone coverage is not available in the area.
Enjoy the scenic views over the waterways and surrounding floodplain. Take your boat to the nearby Bizant River boat ramp for fishing and sightseeing in Brown Creek, Bizant River, and Princess Charlotte Bay. Be aware of the presence of critically endangered Bizant River sharks, and if you happen to catch one, return it unharmed to the water. After sunset, gather around a campfire to share fishing stories and experience the sounds of the night.
