Access to the Burdekin River Camping Area is via an unsealed section of road, making it accessible only to high clearance 4WD vehicles. It's important to exercise caution, especially during wet weather, as the road can become rough and muddy with even minor rainfall. Trailers should be handled with care under such conditions. There are four numbered campsites available at this location, each with its own unique characteristics.
The campsite surface is composed of dirt, creating a rustic and natural camping experience. The camping area accommodates various camping setups, including tent camping, caravan camping, camper trailer camping, and campervan camping. There are no facilities at the Burdekin River Camping Area. Campers are encouraged to be self-sufficient and come prepared with essentials such as drinking water, rubbish bags, insect repellent, and a gas stove for cooking. Campfires are allowed in designated fire rings, but it's important to note that certain conditions may apply, especially during fire prohibitions or bans. Generators are permitted between the hours of 9 am and 12 pm (midday) and must operate at a noise level of less than 65dB(A) at a distance of 7 meters. Mobile phone coverage in the area is limited and unreliable, so campers should not rely solely on their phones for communication.
