Elachbutting Rock Camping Area

Elachbutting Rock is a well-known camping spot for both 4x4 wheel clubs and locals. This massive granite outcrop is also a popular location for weddings. The name Elachbutting is believed to mean "things standing," which is fitting since it is a significant landmark that stands out from the surrounding countryside. Elachbutting boasts a stunning, colourful wave formation similar to Hyden's Wave Rock, as well as the added beauty of Monty's Pass, a 30m tunnel formed by a rock slide. Additionally, there is an echoing cave nearby that resembles an amphitheatre.

Please Note: Campfires are NOT permitted on public land unless purpose built campfire pits have been provided by the owner of the land and permission to use them has been given (during restricted period only).

Things to know

Elachbutting Rock is situated in the Elachbutting Nature Reserve, which marks the transition from the wheat fields of the North East Wheat Belt to the dry red earth and gimlet scrub beyond. The circumference of the rock spans 6km and is surrounded by thick trees and shrubs, concealing a variety of fascinating plant species. The Donkey Orchids at the base of the rock on its east side are particularly well-known, and the rock is situated on the edge of the Great Western Woodlands to the west.
Elachbutting Rock has only one unisex toilet available. It is recommended that visitors bring everything they need for a day trip and take all their belongings with them when they leave.

There are several interesting places to visit in the vicinity of the rock, such as Pioneer Wells, Gnama holes, Monty's Pass, Echo Cave, Wave formation, and the lookout.
