Five Mile Creek Camping Area

The Five Mile Creek camping area offers a tranquil and shaded retreat in the heart of nature, situated on a high bank that overlooks the tidal Five Mile Creek and is in close proximity to Annie River.

2) Generators: only generators operated at less than 65dB(A), when measured 7m from the generator, are permitted, and only between 8.00am and 7.00pm.

The Five Mile Creek camping area is located within the northern part of Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park (CYPAL). It's situated 340 km northwest of Cairns and 140 km west of Cooktown on southern Cape York Peninsula. The camping area can be accessed by 4WD vehicles only, highlighting its remote location and the adventurous spirit required to reach it. The road to the camping area can become impassable after rain, adding an extra layer of excitement for visitors. Tent camping, camper trailer camping, and tent camping beside your car are all suitable options. The campsite surface is a combination of dirt and grass, which can vary seasonally. Campfires are allowed under specific conditions, allowing visitors to enjoy the classic camping experience. Generators are permitted, but only those operating at noise levels below 65dB(A) from a distance of 7 meters are allowed between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Essential items to bring include sufficient food and drinking water (as no fresh water is available), equipment for water treatment, rubbish bags, insect repellent, mosquito nets, a fuel stove, and enough fuel and spare parts for your vehicle. The park is subject to seasonal closures during the wet season, with specific camping areas closed from December to May or June, depending on weather and road conditions. Large crocodiles are often seen in the area, emphasizing the need to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines.

During the hotter parts of the day, consider taking a drive to nearby attractions like Low Lake (Rarda-Ndolphin) and Nifold Plain.
