Things to know

North West Island is the largest of the Capricornia cays and is situated approximately 75 kilometers north-east of Gladstone in the southern Great Barrier Reef. Access to the island is primarily by private boat or commercial vessel, with departure points in Gladstone and Yepoon. There are no separately defined camping sites; visitors can set up their tents in the designated area inland of rope barriers. Camping is suitable for tents only. Campfires are prohibited, but gas or liquid-fueled stoves for cooking purposes are allowed. Generators are not permitted in the Capricornia Cays National Park. Visitors need to bring all their food and drinking water, as there are no provisions available on the island. It's important to pack sturdy rubbish bags, insect repellent, sun protection, a first-aid kit, and a reliable torch. Mobile phone coverage on the island is unreliable, so marine radios and satellite phones are recommended for communication.
