Orange Plain Camping Area
Orange Plain camping area is a picturesque site located along a large waterhole on the Normanby River, making it a perfect haven for fishing enthusiasts and nature lovers. Orange Plain camping area is situated in the northern part of Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park (CYPAL), 340 kilometers northwest of Cairns and 140 kilometers west of Cooktown, on the southern Cape York Peninsula. It is nestled on the steep western bank of the Normanby River.

1) Open fires: allowed (except when fire bans apply). Fuel stoves are recommended. Do not collect firewood in the park.
2) Generators: only generators operated at less than 65dB(A), when measured 7m from the generator, are permitted, and only between 8.00am and 7.00pm.
Things to know
You'll need a 4WD vehicle to access this camping area, and it's important to follow 4WD safety guidelines and practice minimal impact driving while exploring the park. The camping area offers tent camping, camper trailer camping, and tent camping beside your car. Manual boat launching is possible from site four, with no trailer access available. Large crocodiles are frequently seen in the waterhole. Visitors are advised to be cautious and follow safety guidelines provided in crocodile country. Campfires are allowed, but there may be specific conditions in place, so it's essential to check for any fire bans or restrictions. Generators are permitted under certain conditions, including restrictions on noise levels and operating hours. When visiting Orange Plain camping area, make sure to bring adequate food and drinking water, equipment for treating water, rubbish bags, insect repellent, mosquito nets, a fuel stove, and enough fuel and spare parts for your vehicle. Please note that mobile phone coverage is not available in this area.

You can also venture to other nearby attractions like the Bizant River boat ramp, Hann Crossing, Red Lily and White Lily lagoons, and more. In the evenings, gather around a campfire under a starry canopy to share stories and enjoy the serene atmosphere.
