Access to Oystercatcher camping area is restricted to high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles only. It is important to note that the area is not accessible for trailers, caravans, campervans, or buses. Reaching the site involves traversing sandy terrain, a freshwater creek crossing, and tidal creek crossings, making it ideal for adventurous and off-road enthusiasts. Oystercatcher camping area is an open and spacious camping ground without separately defined sites. It provides campers with flexibility in choosing their preferred camping spot, offering a more immersive and communal camping experience. Oystercatcher camping area is primarily designed for tent camping beside your car. Campers have the opportunity to set up their tents in close proximity to their vehicles, ensuring convenience and ease of access to essential camping equipment. The ground surface of the camping area is composed of sand, in keeping with the natural environment of the coastal setting. Campfires are allowed in the camping area, with certain conditions that may apply, such as fire bans. However, it is recommended to use fuel stoves for cooking to minimize environmental impact. Generators are also permitted as long as they operate at a noise level of less than 65dB(A) when measured at a distance of 7 meters from the generator. Visitors are advised to bring essential supplies, including an adequate amount of food and drinking water, rubbish bags for waste disposal, insect repellent, mosquito nets, a fuel stove, ample fuel reserves, spare parts for their vehicles, and recovery equipment. These precautions are essential given the remote and rugged nature of the area. Mobile phone coverage is not available in this remote location. Campers are strongly encouraged to carry satellite phones for communication and personal locator beacons (PLBs) for safety.
