Things to know
The camping area can be accessed by high-clearance 4WD vehicles with low range capability or by boat. It is not accessible by two-wheel-drive vehicles, trail bikes, or motorbikes. Boat ramps are available on the mainland at Donnybrook, Toorbul, Sandstone Point, Golden Beach, Bells Creek, Coochin Creek, Bellara, and Bongaree. There are 14 numbered sites suitable for tent camping beside your 4WD, as well as walk-in camping areas. Additionally, there is a designated area for camper trailers or large groups. Speed limits of 30 km/hr on inland tracks and 10 km/hr at Poverty Creek camping area must be observed. The campsites feature a combination of sand, dirt, and grass surfaces. Open fires are allowed in provided fire rings except during fire bans or prohibitions. Fuel stoves are recommended. Generators are not permitted to ensure a peaceful camping environment. Campers are advised to bring their own drinking water and cooking water, gas stoves or firewood (such as untreated mill off-cuts, not bush wood), rubbish bags, insect repellent, and tarpaulins to protect tents and vehicles from bat droppings. Mobile phone coverage in the area is poor.
