Things to know

Swamp Bay Camping Area is situated approximately 2.1 kilometers (about 1.3 miles) one-way from the Swamp Bay/Mount Rooper car park, making it accessible by foot. Alternatively, you can reach the camping area by traveling approximately 6 kilometers (about 3.7 miles) one-way by boat or kayak from Shute Harbour. However, boat or kayak access is recommended only during fine weather and at high tide due to exposed conditions. Swamp Bay Camping Area offers four separate camping sites, but they are not individually numbered. Each site can accommodate a maximum of four people. The camp sites are suitable for walk-in camping or arriving by vessel at high tide. The surface of the camp sites consists of natural gravel, providing a rustic camping experience. This camping area is a true back-to-nature experience, and as such, it does not provide any facilities beyond the essentials. Please note that open fires are prohibited, so it's advisable to bring a fuel stove for cooking. Since Swamp Bay is a remote camping area with limited facilities, campers must come fully prepared. Be sure to bring your own drinking water, food supplies, rubbish bags, insect repellent, and a fuel stove for cooking. Additionally, given the unreliable mobile phone coverage in the area, it's essential to be self-sufficient and prepared for any emergencies.
