Things to know
The Broadwater camping area is located within Sundown National Park, approximately 250 kilometers (3-4 hours drive) southwest of Brisbane, Queensland, via Stanthorpe, and 70 kilometers northwest of Tenterfield. Access to the camping area is possible by conventional vehicles. The camping area offers individual sites on the bank of the Severn River. Facilities include small barbecues, pit toilets, bush showers with a donkey heater (you need to boil your own water), and water at the headquarters. There are no powered sites. Open fires are permitted only in QPWS barbecues, except during fire bans or prohibitions. Fuel stoves are recommended, and campers should bring their own clean, milled firewood if they want to use the barbecues. Generators are not allowed. Essentials to bring include drinking water, rubbish bags (no bins provided), insect repellent, a container for carrying water from headquarters (treat before drinking), a fuel or gas stove, warm clothing, warm bedding, and clean, milled firewood if using the barbecues. Mobile phone coverage is limited.

The Broadwater camping area is situated on the grassy northern bank of the Severn River, providing campers with a peaceful and scenic setting. There are private camping sites available as well as a separate area for larger groups. Wildlife enthusiasts may have the chance to spot colorful turquoise parrots and eastern grey kangaroos in the vicinity of the camping area. You can take a leisurely stroll along the river or head to The Broadwater for fishing and paddling activities. The waterhole is ideal for swimming on hot days. For those interested in longer hikes, nearby destinations such as Permanent Waterhole, Ooline Creek, and the Western circuit offer exploration opportunities.
