The Getaway Caravan Park
The town of Coonabarabran was established in the late 1800s, but not before John Oxley, on his expedition through the area in 1818 discovered the Castlereagh River and the Warrumbungle Mountains now known as the Warrumbungle National Park. Mr Oxley, who was the Surveyor General of Lands in New South Wales also observed Aboriginals living in the area, the Kamilaroi people, who have been living in the district for nearly 7,500 years. Coonabarabran is the gateway to the Warrumbungle National Park and the Pilliga Forest.
