Access to the Thorsborne Trail is primarily by boat, as Hinchinbrook Island is separated from the mainland by the Hinchinbrook Channel. Visitors can take private vessels or water taxis to reach the island. There are seven designated camping areas along the Thorsborne Trail, all located on the eastern side of Hinchinbrook Island. These camping areas are described in a north-to-south order and provide essential facilities for hikers. Hikers are urged to leave detailed hiking plans with a responsible contact person. This information should include how you are accessing the island (private vessel or water taxi), your planned route, your expected return date, and an agreed-upon time period after which the contact person should notify emergency services if you haven't returned. In case of emergencies or if hikers do not return within the specified time, call Triple Zero (000). Open campfires and cooking fires are not permitted along the Thorsborne Trail. Visitors should also be aware of park-specific conditions and safety guidelines. Before embarking on the Thorsborne Trail, hikers should ensure they have all the essential gear and supplies.
