Things to know
The campground can be accessed by high-clearance 4WD vehicles and on foot by experienced bushwalkers. For those towing a trailer, it's recommended to use Bulwer–Blue Lagoon Road instead of Middle Road, as Middle Road has soft sand that can pose challenges for heavy vehicles. The campground has a maximum capacity of 25 sites, all of which are marked with totems. Seasonal closures may mean that not all sites are full year-round, so availability may vary depending on the time of year. The campsite surface is sandy. Campfires are allowed, but conditions apply, and campfires must be contained in existing fire sites. Essential items to bring include drinking water and containers, water sterilization tablets, rubbish bags, sunscreen, insect repellent, firewood (untreated mill off-cuts), an axe, sealable containers for rubbish, a first-aid kit, and sand pegs. Mobile phone coverage in the area is described as poor and unreliable, so campers should not rely on it for communication.
The Blue Lagoon campground provides an excellent opportunity for nature enthusiasts and campers to experience a coastal camping adventure on this beautiful island. The area offers scenic drives, opportunities for canoeing and kayaking, swimming in the nearby ocean surf beach, and fishing.
