Things to know
The Downfall Creek camping area is situated within Danbulla State Forest on the Atherton Tableland, around 70 km (about 1.5 hours' drive) from Cairns. The camping area is accessible via Danbulla Road. While most of the road is unsealed, it is suitable for all types of vehicles. Note that signs indicate it is not suitable for caravans. Camp sites are not separately defined but spread across an open area with natural separation provided by native vegetation. The camping area accommodates tent camping beside cars, camper trailers, and even large groups. Mobile phone coverage is generally available.
Neighborhood
The ground is covered in grass, providing a comfortable and inviting place to set up camp. Nestled along the banks of Lake Tinaroo, the camping area boasts stunning water views that provide a tranquil backdrop for your camping experience. After setting up camp, you can engage in various activities. Spend time on the water, fishing, waterskiing, or swimming in the lake. Embark on the 2.3 km Regeneration walk, which winds through the forest and plantations, leading to the Kauri Creek camping area. Along the way, you'll learn about different tree species and the transformation of the landscape since the construction of the dam.
