Kambuwal (tent sites) Camping Area

Kambuwal Camping Area is a serene and picturesque camping destination nestled within the stunning Girraween National Park, located on the border of Queensland and New South Wales, approximately 260km southwest of Brisbane. The camping area is designed to provide a rustic yet comfortable camping experience amidst the beauty of nature.

Things to know

The camping area is easily accessible by conventional vehicles. Two access roads, the northern and western entrances, connect to Pyramids Road, which leads to the camping area. The Kambuwal tent sites are designed to accommodate small to large tents and measure 5m x 5m in size. These sites are nestled among trees and granite boulders, providing a sense of privacy and a natural ambiance. Each tent site comes with a dedicated fire pit and a picnic table, allowing campers to enjoy outdoor cooking and dining while taking in the surrounding natural beauty. There are 13 tent sites available in open or semi-shaded areas. Some tent sites offer parking either directly on the site or nearby. The camping area offers eight semi-shaded and open sites suitable for camper trailers. Some sites provide full sun exposure for better solar power availability. Open fires are allowed only in designated Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) barbecues, except during fire bans or prohibitions. Campers are advised to bring their own milled firewood and to never collect wood from the surrounding area. Proper disposal of barbecue ashes is required. Campers are required to make online bookings for their stay, with bookings open up to 6 months in advance. As mobile phone coverage is not available in the camping area, it's essential to be prepared with all necessary supplies, including drinking water, rubbish bags (as no bins are provided), insect repellent, fuel or gas stoves in case of wet weather, warm clothing, and bedding.
