This trek is not for the faint of heart, as it involves steep ascents, exposed rock scrambles, and demanding terrain. It's recommended for experienced hikers who are well-prepared for the journey. The Old Hut Site camping area is nestled in a saddle between the imposing east and west peaks of Mount Barney. This location offers breathtaking views and a sense of isolation amidst the natural beauty of the area. : There are no defined campsites at Old Hut Site, but the area can accommodate a maximum of 6 people, making it an ideal destination for small groups or solo adventurers. The ground is covered with soil and leaf litter, providing a natural, earthy camping experience. Open fires are strictly prohibited, so campers must use fuel stoves for cooking. The use of generators is not allowed to maintain the tranquility of the area. It's crucial to bring essential items such as drinking water, extra food, a first-aid kit, a topographic map, a compass, a torch, warm clothing, wet weather gear, rubbish bags, insect repellent, and a fuel or gas stove. Additionally, a small trowel should be brought for burying faecal waste. Adequate preparation is key to a successful trip.
