Things to know
The camping area is accessible by 4WD vehicles, off-road camper trailers, off-road caravans, and small off-road motorhomes and buses in dry weather conditions. The journey to the camping area sets the tone for an adventurous camping experience, where you can explore remote and unspoiled wilderness. Unlike conventional campgrounds with designated sites, Ourimperee Waterhole offers open areas without separately defined sites. This provides a sense of freedom and flexibility, making it suitable for various camping styles, from tent camping beside your car to walk-in camping and accommodating off-road camper trailers, caravans, small motorhomes, and even large groups. The camping area offers cold bush showers, and there are flushing toilets nearby at the woolshed. These basic amenities ensure that your camping experience remains comfortable while maintaining a connection to the natural surroundings. Campfires are allowed in the camping area, except when fire bans apply. However, it's recommended to use fuel stoves for cooking to help preserve the environment and minimize the risk of wildfires. The use of generators is prohibited to maintain the tranquil and undisturbed atmosphere of the camping area. Given the remote location, it's crucial to bring drinking water, at least seven liters per person per day, as local water is not suitable for consumption. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own rubbish bags and take all recyclables and trash with them when they leave since bins are not provided. Additionally, bringing untreated, clean mill off-cuts for firewood is advisable, or you can opt for fuel or gas stoves for cooking. Mobile phone coverage is available at the Ranger station located in Currawinya National Park, providing a means of communication with the outside world if needed.
