Things to know

Access to Pelican Bay camping area is limited to high-clearance 4WD vehicles only, as it is situated on sandy tracks. There are no formal campsites; it's an open area without separately defined sites. The camping area does not provide any facilities, such as showers, water taps, or rubbish bins. Portable toilets are recommended, and the nearest waste disposal facility is located on Clarkson Drive just outside of Rainbow Beach. Campfires are permitted in pre-existing fire sites, unless QPWS-imposed fire prohibitions or QFES fire bans are in place. Fuel stoves are recommended to minimize environmental impact. Generators are allowed, but they should be low decibel generators up to 2.0Kva and should be turned off after 9 pm. It's advisable to bring your drinking water and storage containers. Campers should also bring insect repellent, fuel or gas stoves, a first-aid kit, sunscreen, and sand pegs. Mobile phone coverage in the area is intermittent, so campers should be prepared for limited connectivity.

Neighborhood

Large flocks of pelicans can often be seen in the calm waters of the bay, providing an opportunity for birdwatching and wildlife enthusiasts. During the day, visitors can explore the area on foot or by boat. Fishing is a popular activity in the calm bay waters, and campers can cook their catch over a campfire while enjoying the beautiful sunset.
