Annie River camping area is located at the northernmost part of Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park, around 340 kilometers northwest of Cairns and 140 kilometers west of Cooktown. It's perched high on the banks of the stunning Annie River, offering picturesque views of the surrounding landscape. The site is reachable only by 4WD vehicles, making it an adventure in itself to access this remote area. The camping area accommodates various camping styles. You can choose from tent camping, camper trailer camping, and even tent camping beside your car. Generators are permitted, but they must be operated at low noise levels (less than 65dB(A)) and within specific hours (between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM) to minimize disruption to the natural environment and other campers. Remember to bring your own essentials, including food, drinking water (as there's no fresh water available), insect repellent, mosquito nets, fuel stove, and any necessary spare parts for your vehicle. It's important to note that Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park is closed during the wet season, which varies each year. Camping areas south of the Lakefield ranger base are typically closed from December 1 to May 31. Mobile phone coverage is not available.
